My Makeup Must Haves

December 12, 2017

If you saw me on an average day, you would not see a speck of makeup on my face.  I’m a busy mom and don’t have a ton of time to do my makeup, so when I do I like it to be easy.  I must admit I’ve spent a LOT of time watching youtube makeup tutorials…..because I was a makeup dummy, still am some days!  I wanted to share with you guys my favourite picks for my daytime makeup looks, all products I’ve tried and stuck with after numerous others didn’t make the cut and were returned, thank you Sephora :)…

My Favourite Fall Finds at Old Navy

December 2, 2017

Ok so I do love my small shops BUT I do fill in our wardrobes here and there with items from stores like Old Navy and Gap.  I’ve been finding some really great pieces at Old Navy lately and wanted to share my favorites, especially with the great sales right now!  Below are my latest finds and some that I’ve had on repeat for a couple of seasons.  Old Navy does a great job at providing classic and trendy fashion that doesn’t break the bank, cuz lets face it….it’s hard to keep up with trends, am I right?
I like to have timeless pieces in my wardrobe mixed in with a bit of trendy, especially this year because I’m loving the trends!  Black Friday deals have already started and things are selling out quickly, so I wanted to share my faves with you guys right away 🙂

Click on the pictures to shop the styles…..

Almost every piece in Liberty’s closet that isn’t small shop is from Old Navy.  The jersey knit dresses are a favorite along with their sweaters, Liberty always has a few of each in her closest.  I’ve included items we’ve recently purchased and some we have in her wardrobe as a staple.  The double-breasted wool coat is by far my favorite new piece!! Homemade Puffs Recipe

November 27, 2017

The granola mom in me loves a healthy and tasty snack and this is both! It is Liberty’s FAVORITE treat, well actually everyone in the house loves them including my husband. They’re so popular, I’m lucky if I can keep a batch for more than a couple of days……*looks for a new hiding spot.

As a mom, I find one of my biggest worries is if my kids are getting proper nutrition.  They get to an age where they refuse to eat certain fruits and veggies, and tend to gravitate towards prepackaged food as snacks. My teenagers would live off of prepacked store-bought food if I let them……even they need guidance in the nutrition department….(they’ll thank me one day).

Snacks that baby can feed themselves, from about 7 months old on, is a great way to encourage fine motor skill development.

Preparing homemade food for meals is hard enough, but snacks too? Really?? With my older kids I remember  Gerber puffs and cereals like cheerios being a big hit among babies and kids at snack time, so why not make it yourself?  I’ve tried many variations of this recipe before finally finding one that worked.  I love that you can customize them to your babies palate, whether sweet or savory or a mix of both! One brand we do trust and use when in a pinch is Love Child Organics I will often use their purees or cereals when I’m running low or don’t have time to make my own.  They’re organic, all natural and delicious!

Some examples of fruits and veggies I use:

Peaches, Apples, Pear, Mango, Banana, Plums

Carrots, Peas, Beet Greens, Kale, Spinach, Sweet Potato

I usually do a mix of veggies and fruit, with a little extra banana for sweetness 🙂

Home-made Puffs Recipe

This is the perfect baby finger food.  Delicious and nutritious!

Course Snack
Cuisine VEGAN
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 35 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes
Servings 12

Ingredients

  • 1 cup organic oat flour, or brown rice flour* (you can also use baby cereal)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup pureed fruits or veggies
  • 1 flax or chia egg (1 tbsp flax (ground raw flaxseed) or chia mixed with 2 1/2 tbsp water - let sit for 5 minutes)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup breastmilk, juice, or water
  • 1 tbsp molasses, unsulphured (optional, great source of iron)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, prepare cookie sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Mix all ingredients together, making sure there are no lumps (but don't overmix)

  3. Pipe onto parchment paper and bake for 15 minutes. Turn oven down to 200 degrees and continue to bake for another 5-7 minutes, depending on how crunchie you want them.

Recipe Notes

Tip: If you don't have a piping bag, you can use a ziploc bag and cut a corner to squeeze through.   *To make your own Oat Flour or Brown Rice Flour, simply pulse in food processor or high-speed blender until the consistency of flour!

I can’t wait to hear if your little ones enjoy this snack!  Please let me know in the comments if you found any new variations or have any tips also!

Black Friday Free People!

November 25, 2017

Ok gals, I’m sure many of you have done some of your Black Friday shopping, but did you grab anything for you? Or just for the kids and hubby like I usually do.  I’m totally into online shopping these days, whatever doesn’t fit I simply return.  I get to change in my own bedroom and try things on with the stuff in my closet, so I can get a real sense of if it will work for me.  Plus you don’t have to tote around a baby or kids with you, Liberty ALWAYS has a melt down or a blowout……just mom life right? lol

I’ve rounded up my favorite Free People finds, which are on MAJOR sale at The Bay right now.  They also have NO minimum for FREE shipping!!!  Yes please!! I’ve tried to include some US retailers as well, so you might see doubles on some of the products.

A little about me……

November 14, 2017

Hey guys!! Well, I’m finally doing it…..I’m writing my first blog post!  It’s funny the first thing I hear from most people when I say I’m stumped on how to start my blog is “me too!”  So it’s good to know I’m not alone.  I have been putting this off for quite awhile, waiting for the perfect first post, and I came to the conclusion that there is no perfect and being real is the best way to go….always!   People are intimidated by the unknown, I know I am *raises hand…..so here goes nothing!

I’m Maegan! My husband Aaron and I are raising our family in BC Canada where I am currently a stay at home mama to our littlest bean Liberty! Aaron works out of town most of the time which is why I’m so happy to have found this creative outlet! We have 3 older kiddos, Olivia (12), Ethan (15) and Miles (22), being that I’ve been a mom over a span of 22 years gives me a lot of knowledge on the subject of mama hood!  Which is kinda why I started my blog :). I’ve met a great little community of mothers over on Instagram, I love sharing everything from baby-wearing tips, recipes, clothing brands we love and just general mom stuff.  So this space is a great way for me to do that and continue those relationships on another platform! Win-Win

A little about me….

  1. I LOVE to cook, you can usually find me in the kitchen for hours in a day….probably with Liberty on my hip.
  2. I go to sleep almost every night watching FRIENDS, it’s like my comfort blanket ( I know I should read more)
  3. I always love a good bargain, I almost never pay full price for anything and prefer to buy it used if possible!
  4. If shopping was a sport I would be an Olympic gold medalist (no joke)
  5. Staying active is a big part of my life, I’m usually hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, paddle boarding or doing anything that doesn’t require me to be in a gym.
  6. I have a few idiosyncrasies, my weirdest one by far ( and one my husband teases me the most about).  I have to finish stairs with my left foot….weird right?  Not every time, I’m not crazy I swear lol.

I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you and meet some new friends! Please feel free to leave a comment below and tell me a bit about yourself as well!

Xo
