5 Ways to Style a Slip Dress

December 18, 2019

One way I’m getting more use out of pieces in my wardrobe is to try styling it different ways, which means actually taking to time to put looks together! So doing these styling sessions actually helps me, just as much as it helps you!

This slip dress from Madewell is one of those pieces that can easily be dressed up or down. I love a versitile dress like this, dress is up with heels or boots…..or dress it down in the spring/summer with sneakers and a denim jacket. I’ve put 5 looks together for holiday styling, everyday looks and night out. Hope you enjoy!

Usual size in the Madwell slip dress and sweater.
I belted the dress in order to tuck the sweater in and give it a more cropped look.
Boots run tts and this handbag I wear every day!
Can be worn cross-body or over shouler with adjustable strap 🙂

Giving this dress an edgy look with a leather jacket and heels, such a classic fun look!
Perfect for a holiday party or date night!

Comfy cashmere sweater and flats, this will probably be my most worn look!
Sweater and flats fit tts. Again I belted the dress and front tucked the sweater.

The slip dress also works well for layering! This is a great winter look, I’m wearing a thin turtleneck under and over the knee boots, to add extra warmth!
Adding a coat with a pattern can be a fun way to bring interest to the outfit!

A simple sweater blazer or cardigan over, paired with booties. Easy outfit to throw on and head out the door! Sweater blazer I went a size down. Outfit links HERE

My favourite athleisure brands!

July 30, 2018

Ok ladies, lets be honest….along with high waisted jeans, high waisted leggings are a girls best friend!  Well mine anyways, after 4 kids I need allllll the help I can get.  I have purchased and returned countless pairs of leggings, and sports bras.  Not to mention all of the ones I wore once or twice and now have a dark existence in the back of a drawer somewhere.  After having kids I was never one of those lucky ones who bounces back naturally.  I’ve never had anything even remotely resembling a six pack and I’ve learned to embrace my cellulite.  I HAVE however found some amazing gear that makes me feel comfortable and sexy working with exactly what god gave me 🙂

Sport Chek in Canada has a fair amount of the items I’ve recently purchased marked down to almost 50% off!! I’ve included those items in this post.  They also do free shipping and a 60 day return policy…..what??? Yup 60 days. ( Insert happy dance)

First of all, especially now that I’m nursing and actually have breasts, a comfortable supportive sports bra is key!  I’ve tried the ones with a zillion criss-crossing straps on the back, making me feel (and look some days) like a tied pork roast….NO thank you!  These are a few of my recent favourites, I’ve tried on all of these and own most of them.  I am a 34 D and generally wear a size small in all of these brands, the removable cups leave a little extra room if you want to remove them too.

Pants for me are the hardest thing to find, whether it is jeans or leggings I almost always have a muffin top crisis.  So high waisted leggings are like a little bit of heaven I’m hanging on to until the styles change again.  Alo yoga is one of my favourites, being a Canadian girl I almost felt like I was cheating the first time I tried a pair of Alo leggings on.  Sorry Lululemon! They fit SO well, don’t give any peekaboos of your underwear when bending over, and lift, smooth and shape ALLLL the right places….hallelujah!  Lorna Jane is another brand new to me, but I’m feeling the same as I do for Alo, great coverage and shape.  I tend to be a small in both of these, although I do find Alo to be a little more generous in their sizing, depending on the style.

I also threw in a couple of tops in my online shopping, because the outfit needs to be completed.  Also I’m not entirely comfortable baring my midriff in-front of unsuspecting people.  Short shirts go so well with high waisted pants and I’ve found a few I think you’ll love too!

I hope you guys are able to find a cute new piece for the gym, yoga or lounging! Any questions about sizing or fit please let me know 🙂

xo

Chocolate Zucchini Banana Muffins ( vegan & no refined sugar! )

July 16, 2018

You know when you make a recipe and it’s so delicious you can’t believe it’s even remotely healthy?  Well friends, this is one of those times.  I started trying to find the perfect zucchini bread recipe a few years ago, I found myself with more zucchini than I knew what to do with…..courtesy of an overly abundant garden. After trying countless recipes and finally taking what I loved from some and omitting other ingredients to make it vegan, I feel like I’ve finally got it down to a science.

My husband loves anything to do with chocolate.  I remember the first time I made him a chocolate vegan cupcake with avocado frosting, I almost didn’t have the heart to tell him it was healthy and burst his bubble…LOL.  I would love to try other flours, spelt or even buckwheat in these! If you do try an alternative please let me know in the comments, I’d love to know how they turned out 🙂 .

These scrumptious little morsels don’t last long in our house, and the few times they’ve lasted longer than 2 days, I couldn’t believe how moist they still were!!  Nothing worse than having to choke down a dry muffin with coffee, just so you can get it down the hatch…..these babies don’t disappoint!!  As you can tell, Liberty is a HUGE fan.

Levi’s ~ Finding The Perfect Fit

June 11, 2018

I have been on the hunt for the perfect pair of Levi’s for some time now. I’ve bought and returned way too many over the past year, I’m pretty sure they know me on a first name basis at the return counter now! HA!  Ok that’s a bit of an exaggeration, only because I do most of my shopping online…..when you have a toddler, it’s the only way to shop!

I have finally narrowed it down to about 4-5 pairs that are my favourite, and I’m sharing them with you!  You see so many cute trendy Levi’s on Instagram and other social media channels, but they’re like unicorns to find……trust me, I’ve done the work for you :).  I’ve fallen in LOVE with the original high-rise cotton Levi’s, you know the ones?  They ones you can’t breath in for the first few hours you wear them…..but once they break in they are like your best friend.

Size details: all of the demin in this post is high waisted and has zero stretch, I would order your regular size.  Don’t freak out (like me) when your long awaited denim arrives and they’re too tight, they DO loosen.  If you don’t believe me, wear them around for an hour with the tags on, you’ll be happy you didn’t hastily send them back and curse me 😉

I searched high and low for these babies, after seeing them I knew I had to have them…..and they were worth the wait!  These Levi’s are a wedgie straight fit, with the perfect amount of distressing and a raw hem…….HELLLLOOOO summer jeans.  They’re high waisted and make your butt look pretty ammmaazing, even if like me you don’t have a booty!

SHOP THEM HERE

These Levi’s fit exactly the same as the previous, just a lighter wash.  I actually stumbled on these ones, but I’m glad I did!  They’re the perfect light summer wash, paired with a white T and your favourite sandals, summer uniform ready!

SHOP THEM HERE

I also wanted to get some demin that would carry me into Fall and Winter, so I grabbed these Levi’s too. A few less holes and not quite as cropped, means you can wear them into the cooler weather.  I also like how they are a bit more tapered in the leg, perfect for fitting into some cute boots!

SHOP THEM HERE

These Levi’s are great for into the colder months also, with less distressing and a darker denim.  These are actually one of my favourites out of all the pairs I now have, they have a real vintage wash to them…..like the perfect thrifted pair!

SHOP THEM HERE

Here are a few other options if you don’t see ones above that are for you.  I’ve included my favourite Levi’s, that I still wear every week….I now have them in 2 different washes.  Also of course I included the shirt I’m wearing, I always get so many questions about this one!  It’s so comfortable and soft, goes with everything…… I’ve recently ordered it in two more colours :).

As always, any questions just ask!!

Spring & Summer Staples

May 5, 2018

This season I’ve really tried going out of my comfort zone with fashion, as in trading my comfortable yoga pants and T-shirts for some really cute pieces. I have always loved fashion and find myself buying really unique items, but they sit in my closet! Usually because I think I have nowhere to wear them or I’d rather just wear the tried and true pieces I live in.

My absolute favourite brand is Free People, I’ve always had a soft spot for Boho and lucky me….it’s in style! Another fave is Urban Outfitters, they always have really neat different items. Also I’ve been loving American Eagle lately, they have some super cute fashionable finds at a great price point! I’ve included some of my recent purchases for you guys to check out

I bought a few different items, especially colours I wouldn’t normally buy and they ended up being some of my favourite pieces this spring.   These dresses and skirts are so fun and flirty, yet still in line with my mom style so I can do my day to day tasks, being comfortable and stylish!

My love for jumpsuits and one pieces is pretty huge lately, I just think they’re so fun and easy to wear.  Plus it’s a whole outfit already to go!

Lastly some cute sandals are a must in my books.  I’m really loving the espadrilles look this year and I’m currently on the hunt for some just like these.  If you guys have a pair that you love please share in the comments!

Happy shopping loves!!! I’d love to hear about any new finds you guys have and I’m always a sucker for a good deal.
Xo
